Some weeks ago one of the ferrets gave birth. This was somewhat unexpected as the male had be vasectomised, and the vet was very sorry and did several freebies to make up. Now, I have to admit that ferrets are not my favourite animals, but these kits really are very sweet - although perhaps not in my kitchen in future please - and here are three of them to prove it.

Which reminds me, I have just finished reading two showbiz autobiographies (both I suspect genuinely and totally the work of the subject) Himoff by Richard Whiteley and White Cargo by Felicity Kendal (the latter being the reading club choice this month); Richard Whiteley, Cambridge University English graduate, clearly couldn't write and the book included a number of errors such as flaunt used instead of flout and disinterested for uninterested, while Felicity Kendal who never went to school anywhere for more than a few weeks and had left altogether by the time she was in her teens, equally clearly can. I found that I liked both of them rather less than I like them on screen which is a shame.

Wondering if 'Skip ' would be a suitable name for a ferret.
I guess not - there are no ugly ones. All are soft, warm and charming. -

My nephews' ferrets are only pts in the sense of being loved and cosseted - they are working animals used to flush out rabbits for shooting and hawking. And before anyone goes on at me about blood sports - no, I don't, but my brother-in-law is a farmer and his children are farmer's children and they have to protect their crops.

P & J had pet ferrets which were solely that, and Jackie was much more upset about the death of the ferrets than she had been about either of their two dogs. They insisted their ferrets didn't smell - I say they only didn't notice because everything they owned took on a faint ferrety odour after a while!
The best thing I saw of Richard Whitely was him being bitten by the ferret that time - I never liked him and wouldn't bother to read a biography about him.-

I've always enjoyed Countdown and felt that he contributed a great deal to its success, and the very real grief from people who had known and worked with him for years confirmed that he was one of the good guys. Besides his name's Richard.

I remember well, when once we went rabbit shooting using a ferret to chase the rabits out of the burrow bolt holes.
