Following another win by Grimsby Town(!) - and as an apology for Joe's lapse yesterday - I thought that I would pop in this little bit of nostalgia for Liz - the Mariners squad of 1972.
Back: Stuart Gray, Mike Hickman, Dave Booth, Clive Wiggington, Harry Wainman, Lew Chatterley, Matt Tees, Graham Rathbone, Barry Lynch
Front: Dave Boylen, Paddy Campbell, Dave Worthington, Lawrie McMenemy, Jack Lewis, Allen Gauden, Stuart Brace

Don't knock it. At least Grimsby - surely one of the most mobile clubs up and down the divisions in the history of the league - is still in the league after more than a century even if in some seasons staying clear of that bottom slot has been a bit of a struggle.

Wow, this has to be the most random post I've seen all day

I don't actually know anyone who supports Grimsby, although I know people who support non-Premiership teams (Barnet, Northampton, Preston).
Went to the Arsenal-Grimsby League Cup tie in 2001. I believe Arsenal won 2-1.
God bless xx -

Most people in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and the surrounding area support Grimsby Town. When my mother's family came to the area in 1935 the great attraction for my grandfather and uncle was that they would see first division (when it was the first division) football. That was the year when they were fifth in the league and FA Cup semi-finalists. My father was great friends with several Town players in the 1950s, and my best friend a huge fan in the early 1970s.

A fine set of chaps they were too! Division 4 Champions when Division 4 was Division 4! (erm, bottom of the professional leagues...)
