You're thinking of Babs. I prefered someone else, whose name I've completely forgotten... He had to retire because of injury soon after the first few games I watched.
She may have been the prime instigator, but you both wrote those daft fan letters. The only other names I can remember from that era are Harry Wainman, Dave Booth and Dave Boylen.
